Maria Mirza is a multidisciplinary artist. She is often found losing herself in various media, running down rabbit holes and nurturing wonder and joy. For Maria, food is intuitive, experimental, community-informed, and sentiment-led. It’s a form of storytelling, care, and creative expression—and one of her love languages. Maria is currently working on a multimedia zine, weaving together a narrative that explores disability, neurodiversity, childhood, queerness, and familial histories using her family recipes as a thread.

How did you first come to be involved with the Local Food Club?

I found LFC through The Locavore, joined the community, attended and hosted meet-ups, and here we are.

What’s your go-to local food spot in your city, and why does it matter to you?

Home. There’s nothing better than cooking with loved ones. 

One food trend you’re loving right now, and one you’re ready to see less of.

Loving it: Wild foods getting the spotlight they deserve. 

See less of:  AI menus and chain restaurants.

What’s something you’ll almost always find in your fridge?

Seasonal fruits, cheese, eggs, and pickles.

What’s an LFC moment or memory that you’ll never forget?  

Observing how engrossed and deeply engaged community members were with each other at one of the meetups I hosted.

How do you imagine your Local Food Club growing and flourishing over time? 

I imagine LFC as a space for culinary exploration through writing, reading, tasting, digesting, cooking, listening, observing, dreaming, planning, collaborating, remembering, archiving, nourishing, and feeding—across cuisines, eras, seasons. Thinking about food systems together, while sharing food.
