COMMUNITY GUIDELINES

Started by The Locavore, the Local Food Club (LFC) is a nation-wide initiative where people come together once a month to share meals, swap stories, and celebrate the rich, regional diversity of our food traditions. Each gathering is informal, free, and open to everyone—home cooks, curious eaters, students, farmers, neighbours, old-timers, and first-timers alike.

As a community, here’s what we stand for:

1. COME AS YOU ARE

You don’t have to be a chef, a “foodie,” or a food expert to be part of this. Curiosity is enough. Each Local Food Club is a space to show up, learn, and share—whether you bring a home-cooked dish, a memory, or just your presence.

We also celebrate joy, creativity, and play—through games, storytelling, cooking experiments, and ingredient swaps. Food, after all, isn’t just serious business—it’s a means to make interactions fun, personal, and alive.

2. Zero Tolerance for Hate Speech, Bullying, and Harassment

Local Food Club is a space to explore, understand, and engage with other people, tastes, foods, and cultures—safely and respectfully. Discrimination of any kind—based on intersecting identities of religion, class, sex, caste, age, gender, orientation, disability, sexuality, political ideology, statehood, health, ethnicity, occupation, language, food preferences, physical appearance—will not be tolerated. Our gatherings and WhatsApp groups must be free from:

  • Hate speech or hateful conduct

  • Harassment or abuse of any kind

  • Unsolicited personal messages or promotional content

  • Sharing private information without consent

  • False or misleading information

We’re here to connect—not divide.

Please ask before sharing anyone’s photo, story, or quote. While we know LFCs are documented and shared, if someone asks not to be photographed or quoted, please honour that. No explanations required.

4. Low on Waste, High on Care

We try to leave every space better than we found it.

Bring reusable containers. Choose local and seasonal when you can. Stay back to help clean up.

Disrespecting the venue or vandalising shared spaces is not acceptable. This is a community effort—we look out for one another, and for the places that host us.

5. Digital Spaces Are Part of the Club

Each LFC has a city-based WhatsApp group—that’s where the real planning and community-building happens between gatherings.

Here’s what to bear in mind:

  • Please keep the tone warm and respectful

  • Avoid spamming or promoting personal content

  • Be generous in how you share, invite, and listen

6. If Something Feels Off

We take concerns seriously. If you experience or witness a violation of these guidelines, you can:

  • Speak to your Host or Super Locavore

  • Write to us directly at support@localfoodclub.in

We’ll respond promptly and do our best to make things right. Anyone making others feel unsafe will be removed from the group or future gatherings.

For Super Locavores and Hosts

You help hold up the space. Please:

  • Set an inviting, caring tone

  • Be available for questions or concerns

  • Encourage participation while allowing for quietness

  • Let The Locavore team know if something feels off

Our LFC gatherings are more than just meals. They are part of a movement—of food, of ideas, of people showing up for each other. Let’s make it count.
