MONTHLY MEETUPS
In the final month of our quarterly theme Know Your Desi Ingredients, we focused on ‘fish, meat and more.’ We explored what these foods reveal about community knowledge, culture, caste, and ecology. We explored fish markets, cooked together, and shared delicious meals and stories. Local Food Club (LFC) members came together across five different cities, including Bhubaneswar, Hyderabad, Kochi, Kolkata, and Thiruvanthapuram.

“Thank you Joshna for the cook-along, where we made tofu momos (with blue pea dough) and classic chicken momos. It was a fun Sunday and kudos to all of us—Anurag, Ashish, Satwik, Dhanya, Rajnish—for cooking together delicious food!”

“This quarter taught me that knowing our desi ingredients is about more than just knowing their names. Understanding different meats, fish, their cuts, textures, flavours, and the best ways to cook them has made me more confident and curious in the kitchen. It also made me appreciate the incredible variety and richness of Indian ingredients.”

“Thank you for a wonderful time Nithin and Lamya! It was nice meeting many like-minded folks, and the games were so much fun. The potluck was such a highlight, because we tasted a variety of cuisines cooked by different people. And we exchanged wonderful food stories. It felt like one big family, and I can’t wait for the next one.”

“My first-ever market tour turned out to be such a refreshing and delightful experience. Navigating the bustling lanes with a wonderful group, discovering unfamiliar vegetables, tasting new flavours, and exchanging stories about our favourite home-cooked meals—time just flew by. Thank you Samudra for hosting the experience so beautifully. From the very beginning, he made everyone feel comfortable, involved, and engaged.”

“During our pickle workshop, we crafted an array of vegetarian and non-vegetarian pickles, filling the air with the rich, tangy aromas of roasted spices and heated oils. The soaked raisins, fried tunas, chicken pieces, squid rings, gooseberries draped in turmeric, grated ginger and garlic, and cut green chillies all were a colourful sight. The event drew a passionate crowd of local locavores; to learn about preservation, share homemade recipes, and personal family lores.”

Behind every Local Food Club (LFC) gathering are people quietly making it all happen—our Super Locavores (SLs)! They are our generous stewards behind the LFC community keeping it together with care, intention, and several behind-the-scenes efforts.
We would like to thank the SLs for making the meetups meaningful and memorable for the community. Meet your SLs here.
The Local Food Club (LFC) is a nation-wide, community-led initiative facilitated by The Locavore.
