“She would have been so thrilled to see her work appreciated so many years after she wrote the cookbooks”

A recipe query for Parsi Chicken Farcha sparked fond memories of Katy Dalal’s 1998 cookbook, ‘Jamva Chaloji’. Now hard to find, the cookbook endures as a Parsi classic, made all the more special with her family members now part of the LFC community.

Piyali: Can anyone share a good recipe for Parsi Chicken Farcha?

Rhea: So happy to see this shared. The author is my mom-in-law!

Elizabeth: My favourite book, Rhea! I have both volumes, ‘Jamva Chaloji’ I and II, and her book ‘Delicious Encounters’.

Piyali: That’s so amazing!! Some recipes from our elders are always a blessing. I hope I will do justice to it. I will share once I make it.

Mehula: I love this book, and have made so many recipes from this!

Rhea: So lovely to see so many fans of her books. She would have been so thrilled to see her work appreciated so many years after she wrote the books.

Elizabeth: Me too! I make her dhansakh masala regularly. And have made so many other recipes. A must-have cookbook.

Purba: Is this still available?

Elizabeth: I’m not sure. I bought it ages ago. Check Crossword stores also. Rhea Dalal, can you help?

Piyali: Yes, even I would love to look at this cookbook.

Rhea: Unfortunately, her books are very hard to find now; they’re mostly unavailable. I occasionally check on Amazon and other booksellers, but it’s very rare that they are available at any normal price. I had ordered a couple of months ago, but the books never came, and the money was refunded after a couple of months.

Elizabeth: It’s such a classic, ‘Jamva Chaloji’. I hope they decide to reprint it.

Piyali: We need to ensure her recipes are not lost or forgotten.
