LFC MUMBAI
January-June 2026

A former adman who left the industry to follow his passion for food, Omkar started The Girgaum Kitchen—a cosy corner restaurant in the heart of Mumbai’s Girgaon—dedicated to reviving the area's lost flavours. When he is not at the restaurant, he is at the beach or frying Bombil.
How did you first come to be involved with the Local Food Club?

I had always admired what The Locavore stood for—its commitment to celebrating local food, culture, and community. So when the opportunity came to be a part of it, I knew I didn’t want to let it pass. That’s how LFC naturally became a part of my journey.

What’s your go-to local food spot in your city, and why does it matter to you?

My go-to local food spot in the city is a small chaat stall in Dahisar — the same bhaiyya I’ve been visiting since my school days. The food isn’t fancy or extraordinary, but that’s not why I go back. It’s the memories. That little stall has been a constant through different phases of my life.

One food trend you’re loving right now, and one you’re ready to see less of.
I love the fact that a lot of home-dining experiences are being launched. I think I am done seeing matcha everywhere.

What’s something you’ll almost always find in your fridge?

Pani puri chutney for sudden cravings.

What’s an LFC moment or memory that you’ll never forget?

When I attended the first LFC at the OML office, what stayed with me wasn’t just the event—it was the energy in the room. People weren’t just eating; they were connecting, sharing stories, and speaking about food with genuine passion and curiosity. There was a sense of community that felt rare and honest. In that moment, I knew this was a space I truly belonged in.

How do you imagine your Local Food Club growing and flourishing over time?

I believe my Club will truly grow when the conversations don’t end with the event. When

members begin meeting outside of it—without the SL having to initiate or facilitate—that’s when a real community starts forming.
