Bazaar Walk and Brunch with Chef Sohini Banerjee

FEBRUARY 2026

About the Walk

The walk brought together British Bengali chef and writer Sohini Banerjee for an intimate morning through Jadubabur Bazaar, one of South Kolkata’s most storied neighbourhood markets. The morning began with hot chai and soft sandesh, before slipping into the narrow lanes of the bazaar. As the market gathered pace, participants were guided through its 18th-century past, its ties to the Hooghly River, and the everyday rhythm of vendors and seasonal produce like fish, poultry, fruits, and vegetables.

Along the way, the attendees picked up ingredients to whip up a Bengali-inspired light brunch and salad at Sohini’s ancestral home immediately after the walk.

The morning moved from street to home, from history to plate. While it took the form of a market walk, it unfolded equally as a history lesson, ending with a home-style Bengali brunch.
