ORIGIN: Palakkad, Kerala

These ribbon-style murukku are made with onion puree and chilli powder incorporated into the dough that give it its distinct colour and flavour.
You’ll be buying directly from the producer. The Locavore does not handle orders, payments, delivery, or customer support.
Typically, flavourings added as powders introduce a considerable amount of salt and sugar into the snacks. To circumvent this, Malabar Se incorporates aromatics and vegetables like curry leaves and onion within the dough of the murukku. This lends both colour and flavour, thereby reducing the need for added salt and sugar.
Have it the way you would any savoury snack, on its own or alongside tea. It works especially well as an evening snack or something to pass around, and pairs easily with simple dips or chutneys if you want to change things up. You can also crumble it lightly over dishes like curd rice or upma for added crunch and flavour.
Malabar Se showcases Kerala-inspired small-batch snacks made with locally sourced, chemical-free produce using age-old techniques. They use locally sourced coconut oil for frying, and cook their products on a traditional wood-fired chulha that burns coconut husks and sawdust from a local wood mill.
