Join British Bengali chef and writer Sohini Banerjee for an intimate morning walk through Jadubabur Bazaar, one of Bhawanipore’s most storied neighbourhood markets. You will start with hot chai and soft sandesh, lingering just long enough before slipping into the narrow lanes of the bazaar. As the market begins to gather pace, you will be guided through its 18th-century past, its ties to the Hooghly River, and the everyday rhythm of seasonal produce across fish, poultry, fruits, and vegetables.
Along the way, you’ll help pick ingredients to whip up a Bengali-inspired light brunch and salad at Sohini’s ancestral home right after the walk.
The morning will move from street to home, from history to plate. While this is a market walk, it is also part history lesson, part home-cooked brunch.
Chef Sohini Banerjee is known for her experiments with Bengali cuisine in the United Kingdom by melding authentic flavours from her upbringing in Kolkata with global culinary techniques.
