Community and Events Lead
Role: Community and Events Lead
Reports to: Head of Strategy & Operations
Location: Remote (based in India)
Employment Type: Full Time
At The Locavore, we believe food is a powerful medium to build communities, nurture wellbeing, and create long-lasting change. As we grow, we’re looking for a Community and Events Lead to strengthen our grassroots networks, deepen connections with members, and expand our outreach across India’s diverse food landscape.
You’ll manage the community of our Local Food Club (LFC) initiative — a nationwide network of community-led gatherings centered around food — and build relationships with collaborators, partners, and local changemakers. Your work will ensure our communities remain vibrant, inclusive, and inspired, both online and offline.
Key Responsibilities:
Community Building & Leadership
- Lead the growth and engagement of the Local Food Club, a national movement to build grassroots communities around local food practices.
- Identify, onboard, and support Super Locavores, hosts, venues, and photo volunteers to run and facilitate local meetups.
- Conduct training and orientation sessions for new hosts, venues, and volunteers to ensure alignment with LFC values, event flow, and community guidelines.
- Create toolkits, engagement plans, and feedback loops to help local chapters grow and thrive.
- Manage and moderate 40+ LFC WhatsApp groups (and growing) to keep them active, safe, and welcoming, while exploring ways to make moderation more efficient and streamlined.
- Resolve conflicts and address sensitive situations with empathy, discretion, and alignment to community values.
- Maintain organised records of community issues, moderation actions, and problematic member cases for internal tracking and decision-making.
Outreach & Partnerships
- Work closely with venue partners, Super Locavores, and local hosts to ensure events are well-supported and aligned with LFC’s ethos.
- Build and maintain relationships with producers, chefs, researchers, educational institutions, NGOs, and cultural collaborators.
- Identify and approach new organisations, communities, and regions for LFC expansion.
Event Design & Execution
- Coordinate WhatsApp communications and logistics for monthly LFC meetups.
- Plan and deliver community-facing events such as workshops, heritage walks, storytelling sessions, and food pop-ups.
- Oversee event logistics, partnerships, budgets, and post-event documentation in collaboration with other teams.
- Ensure all events align with national LFC monthly themes and broader Locavore campaigns.
Storytelling & Engagement
- Support editorial and digital media teams to amplify community impact through stories, photography, and digital campaigns.
- Oversee community engagement channels — WhatsApp groups, newsletters, and other forums — to foster dialogue and collaboration.
- Feature community voices and contributions through interviews, spotlights, and content partnerships.
Feedback & Impact Tracking
- Gather and analyse community feedback to evolve engagement strategies and improve member experience.
- Track metrics on group activity, event participation, and member growth to guide future planning.
Candidate Attributes
- Strong belief in the power of communities and food as a cultural force.
- Prior experience in community engagement, outreach, or event planning.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and facilitation skills.
- Skilled in conflict resolution and maintaining a safe, respectful environment.
- Highly organised with strong back-end tracking and documentation skills.
- Able to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
- Confident in public speaking and collaborative leadership.
- Deeply committed to inclusivity, cultural sensitivity, and equity.
- Familiarity with India’s food, culture, and sustainability landscape is a plus.
Growth Opportunities
- As Community Lead, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping the future of The Locavore’s national network. Over time, you could evolve into:
- Head of Culture, with strategic oversight of our national Local Food Club network.
- A leadership role shaping people’s experience and public engagement across major Locavore projects and storytelling platforms.
- A key representative of The Locavore in external partnerships, institutional collaborations, and cultural initiatives.
