Role: Culinary Research Intern
Reports to: Culinary Research Associate

Role Overview

At The Locavore, we’re passionate about exploring, documenting, and celebrating the diversity of India’s food culture. As a Culinary Research Intern, you will have the unique opportunity to delve deep into India’s culinary heritage, contributing to our mission of ‘Doing Good Through Food’ through impactful research and storytelling.

This internship offers hands-on experience in culinary research, fieldwork, and content creation, helping you understand the intricate connections between food, culture, history, and sustainability.

Key Responsibilities

Research and Documentation

    • Conduct research into regional food practices, ingredients, and culinary traditions

    • Conduct ingredient-based research for the Know Your Desi Ingredients (KYDI) archive

    • Document recipes, techniques, and food stories through interviews, and archival research

    • Assist in creating comprehensive narratives around food systems and their socio-cultural contexts

Recipe Exploration and Testing

    • Research, develop, and test regional recipes to ensure their authenticity and accuracy

    • Collaborate with culinary experts, producers, and local cooks to refine recipes

Storytelling and Content Support

    • Collaborate with the Editorial team to develop and refine stories related to culinary heritage

    • Assist in preparing content for publication across The Locavore‘s website, newsletters, and social media platforms

Project Collaboration

    • Work closely with teams on The Locavore‘s ongoing initiatives, such as the Millet Revival Project or Local Food Project, contributing culinary insights and research

Candidate Attributes

  • Passionate about food and curious about the intersections between food, culture, and sustainability
  • Excellent research and writing skills, with a keen eye for detail and storytelling
  • Willingness to travel and engage with local communities
  • Creative and adaptable, with the ability to approach challenges with innovative solutions
  • Proficient in using tools for documentation (Google Workspace, research databases, etc.)
  • Knowledge of regional cuisines, culinary traditions, or food systems is a plus
