Graphic Design Intern

Location: Remote

Duration: 4 months (Internship)

Reports to: Digital Media Lead

About The Locavore

The Locavore is a platform committed to transforming the way India engages with its food systems. From storytelling and culinary research to grassroots initiatives and community events, our work centers around local ingredients, sustainable practices, and cultural preservation.

We are looking for a Graphic Design Intern to support our growing design needs across social media, editorial storytelling, event communications, and new campaigns. This is a great opportunity for an emerging designer to gain hands-on experience in purpose-driven visual communication while contributing to meaningful projects that celebrate food, people, and place.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Social Media Design: Create visuals for Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube that align with The Locavore’s voice and content (carousel posts, reels covers, stories, banners, etc.).

  • Website and Editorial Assets: Design graphics, layouts, and visual assets for articles, series, and new sections of our websites and editorial properties.

  • Events & Campaigns: Create posters, invites, digital banners, and on-ground collateral for The Locavore’s community events, potlucks, installations, and campaigns.

  • Support for New Projects: Contribute to the visual development of special initiatives (e.g., Wild Food Zine, Local Food Club, Millet Revival Project), helping translate ideas into clear, accessible design formats.

  • WhatsApp & Internal Communications: Help design small-format creatives (flyers, gifs, infographics) to be shared across our internal WhatsApp groups and LFC city chapters.

  • Collaborative Workflow: Work closely with the design lead and relevant team members to understand briefs, brainstorm ideas, and deliver creative assets in a timely manner.

Candidate Attributes

  • A student or recent graduate in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, or a related field
  • Proficient in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Canva, or similar tools
  • A good eye for layout, typography, colour, and visual hierarchy
  • Able to translate ideas into compelling visuals with clarity and empathy
  • Familiar with digital-first formats, particularly Instagram and editorial design
  • Curious about food, sustainability, and Indian cultures (bonus but not mandatory).
  • Detail-oriented and self-motivated, with good communication and time management skills.

What You’ll Learn

    • Working within an interdisciplinary, mission-driven team
    • Designing for real-world campaigns, events, and communities
    • How to balance creativity with clarity, accessibility, and brand consistency
    • Exposure to India’s diverse food systems and grassroots movements
    • Opportunities to contribute ideas to evolving projects and formats
