Niger Oil
ORIGIN: Mandya, Karnataka
₹260 | 250 ML
Thick and viscous, this oil is made from locally sourced niger seeds that are pressed at a low speed with no heat.
You’ll be buying directly from the producer. The Locavore does not handle orders, payments, delivery, or customer support.
This beautiful, golden-yellow oil has a strong nutty aroma, and is pressed in ghanis, a traditional wood-pressing machine.
Use it in everyday cooking where you want a slightly more distinct flavour. It works well for sautéing vegetables, in chutneys, or as a finishing oil over dals or cooked dishes. Because its flavour is more noticeable, start with smaller quantities and build up as needed.
Based in Karnataka, Tani Naturals is known for its first cold-pressed oils: peanuts, sesame, niger, and other seeds. They ensure a zero-waste production cycle where residual cakes collected post-extraction are re-used as manure inputs in their farms and as fodder. The excess is sold to farmers in adjacent farms.
