These whole cumin seeds are complex, flowery, and almost citrusy in flavour. They are grown in sandy regions, under intense heat, which leads to a higher essential oil content.

You’ll be buying directly from the producer. The Locavore does not handle orders, payments, delivery, or customer support.

Safe Harvest’s jeera is grown exclusively by women farmers in Barmer, Rajasthan, who practice traditional pesticide-free farming.

Use the whole seeds as a starting point for flavour in everyday cooking, either added whole to hot oil for a tadka or dry roasted to deepen their aroma before grinding. They work across dals, curries, vegetables, rice dishes, and spice blends, where their warm, earthy character forms the base of many recipes. You can also roast and grind them into a powder to use as a topping for buttermilk or sharbats to combat high temperatures in the summer.

Across India, marginalised smallholder women farmers who practice chemical-free farming do not typically receive a fair price at local mandis as their produce would often be clubbed with what is grown using chemicals. By exclusively sourcing from these farmers, Safe Harvest is creating an alternative market channel for them.
