Native Hallikar Cow Ghee

ORIGIN: Hallikar, Karnataka

1,499  |  500 ML

Made from the milk of Hallikar cows, an indigenous cattle breed from Karnataka, this hand-churned ghee has a creamy texture and a nutty, gently smoky flavour.

You’ll be buying directly from the producer. The Locavore does not handle orders, payments, delivery, or customer support.

Use it as you would any high quality ghee: to finish dal and rice, make vegetables sides, or cook savoury rice dishes. We particularly like using it to make crisp dosas, where its nutty flavour comes through beautifully.

Praakritik makes this ghee using the traditional bilona method: milk is first set into curd, which is hand-churned to separate the butter before it is slowly heated to make ghee. We particularly like its rounded, nutty flavour and aroma.

Praakritik—which means ‘of the nature’ in Hindi—is a Mumbai-based brand sourcing produce from farmers across India who do not use any pesticides or chemical inputs for cultivation. They work with over 750 organic farmers and six gaushalas across the country to procure ghee that is obtained from the milk of native breeds of cows.
