Cultured Gir Cow Ghee
ORIGIN: Dongaon, Maharashtra
₹850 | 250
Crafted entirely at home and made from fully traceable ingredients, this ghee boasts a grainy texture, an aromatic essence, and a deep nutty flavour.
You’ll be buying directly from the producer. The Locavore does not handle orders, payments, delivery, or customer support.
This ghee is made using traditional methodologies that have been practised in the village for centuries. This milk is boiled until cream floats, after which it is added to a previous culture. It takes two to four days to make curd from it, which is then churned to make white butter, and finally boiled to make ghee.
Use it over hot rice, dal, or roti, where it melts and carries the flavour of the meal. It also works well for everyday cooking, from tadkas to light sautéing, or simply spread over toast or bhakri. A small spoonful goes a long way.
Dongaon Local’s business model is centred around supporting rural women’s livelihoods, and helping them be financially independent. They also keep traditional practices alive by actively using recipes and techniques that have been passed down orally.
