Tomme de Sayla
ORIGIN: Sayla, Gujarat
₹450 | 150 G
This semi-firm aged cheese made from goat milk is Panchal Dairy’s take on the traditional French Tomme de Savoie.
You’ll be buying directly from the producer. The Locavore does not handle orders, payments, delivery, or customer support.
Tomme de Sayla has a slight tang and a butterscotch flavour perfect for melting into a hearty grilled cheese sandwich.
Slice or shave it and have it on its own, or as part of a simple snack with nuts or something lightly sweet. It also works well in sandwiches or melted gently into toast or warm dishes where its texture softens and the flavour comes through more clearly. This is an easy cheese to keep reaching for, both on its own and alongside other elements.
Panchal Dairy works with local pastoralist communities in Sayla, Gujarat, who follow traditional livestock-rearing practices. While pastoralists produce milk in significant quantities, a lack of separate collection or value chain systems for sheep and goat milk means that they have little choice but to channel it through the existing dairy market dominated by cow and buffalo milk. Panchal Dairy was established to address this gap, and create livelihoods for pastoralist communities in the region.
