About the Project
The Tiny Food Project: Alibag is a three-month collaboration between The Locavore and Tiny Miracles. The project works with a group of women in Alibag to explore food as a means of economic empowerment and community pride.
Through workshops, home-kitchen product trials, storytelling, and market linkages, the project aims to support participants in developing small-batch, community-led food products with viable pathways to reach local buyers.
This pilot will combine on-ground facilitation, food-based skill-building, and storytelling to document learnings and lay the groundwork for a longer-term replicable model of women-led, community-rooted food entrepreneurship grounded in sustainability, and self-reliance.
Role Overview
The Project Lead will oversee the on-ground planning, facilitation, and coordination of the project. They will serve as the primary link between the community participants, Tiny Miracles’ local team, and The Locavore.
This role requires a mix of strong field presence, empathy, and operational efficiency. The Project Lead will guide the project from research and immersion to product trials and launch, while ensuring clear documentation and timely delivery of outputs.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Community Engagement & Relationship Building
Build trust and rapport with participating women and their families through consistent engagement and household visits.
Facilitate participatory discussions to understand community aspirations, strengths, and challenges related to food and livelihood.
Mobilize participants for workshops, trials, and feedback sessions, ensuring inclusive and consistent participation.
- Maintain participant records and feedback logs to track involvement and engagement levels.
Project Execution & Coordination
Plan and oversee all phases of the project — Listening & Research, Product Trials & Training, and Launch & Storytelling — in line with the project timeline.
Coordinate with Tiny Miracles’ on-ground team for logistics, scheduling, and translation where required.
Organize and facilitate training sessions on food hygiene, recipe standardization, costing, and packaging.
Support small-batch product trials in participant kitchens, including procurement of materials and ingredients.
Manage timelines, budgets, and reporting for all key deliverables.
Storytelling & Documentation Support
Document project milestones through notes, photographs, participant quotes, and audio/video snippets.
Provide The Locavore’s editorial team with materials for social media, newsletters, and feature stories.
Partnership & Volunteer Engagement
Liaise with Tiny Miracles and other local partners to coordinate logistics.
Support outreach to local buyers, restaurants, or stores for small-batch trials or sampling opportunities.
Represent The Locavore at community or partner meetings, maintaining clear communication and reporting.
Monitoring, Evaluation & Feedback
Track participation, training attendance, and progression across the project phases.
Collect and organize qualitative feedback from participants and partners to assess impact and learning.
Maintain records of product development, costing, and trials for project evaluation.
Contribute to mid-project check-ins and the final report with key observations and recommendations.
Candidate Attributes
We’re looking for someone who is:
- Genuinely interested in food, ecology, and community-building, with a strong curiosity about local food systems.
- Experienced in community-facing projects, ideally within development, social enterprise, or food-related initiatives.
- Organised and proactive, able to take initiative, follow through, and manage multiple priorities smoothly.
- Fluent in Marathi and English, essential for both field communication and documentation.
- Empathetic and respectful, skilled at building trust and rapport in community settings.
- A people person, able to communicate with clarity, warmth, and patience.
- Comfortable with hands-on work in non-urban environments, adaptable to changing field realities.
- Able to translate qualitative insights into clear, structured documentation and reporting.
Bonus if you have:
- Familiarity with the Alibag or coastal Konkan context.
- A culinary background or experience with small-scale food production, recipe development, or local food enterprises.
- Experience creating basic documentation for storytelling or social media.
Work Structure:
- This role is ideally based in Alibag, or involves regular travel (approximately 1–2 weeks per month).
- Flexibility in working hours is required, depending on community schedules and field activity.
The Locavore team will provide planning support, documentation templates, and regular check-ins throughout the project period
