At The Locavore, our work extends beyond storytelling—we engage deeply with communities, drive impact-driven initiatives, and explore ways to make sustainable food systems more accessible and inclusive. Our Projects vertical is at the heart of this mission, working across diverse initiatives such as the Millet Revival Project, the Tribal Food Project, and other upcoming collaborations. As a Projects Copywriter, you will play a crucial role in bringing these projects to life through compelling narratives, clear communication, and impactful storytelling.
Your writing will serve as a bridge between research, grassroots action, and public engagement, ensuring that the work we do on the ground is documented, communicated, and amplified effectively. Through engaging reports, website content, proposals, and project updates, you will contribute to shaping the public understanding of our impact-driven work.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Storytelling & Content Creation:
• Write and edit content that documents The Locavore’s ongoing projects, capturing their evolution, impact, and challenges.
• Develop feature pieces, field reports, and interviews that highlight the voices of producers, community members, and project collaborators.
• Collaborate with the Editorial and Digital Media teams to publish project-related content on our website and across platforms.
• Research and draft in-depth articles that examine the intersections of food, sustainability, culture, and policy.
Project Proposals & Reports:
• Draft and refine project proposals for funding and partnership opportunities, ensuring clarity, engagement, and alignment with The Locavore’s mission.
• Compile impact reports for internal and external stakeholders, tracking project outcomes and documenting key milestones.
• Develop compelling pitch decks, presentations, and executive summaries that articulate the vision and objectives of The Locavore’s projects.
Website & Newsletter Content:
• Write and edit website content related to various projects, ensuring accuracy, accessibility, and alignment with The Locavore’s voice.
• Craft engaging newsletters that provide updates on project developments, partnerships, and upcoming initiatives.
Event & Campaign Coverage:
• Document and write post-event summaries and reflections for project-related workshops, pop-ups, and community gatherings.
• Assist in creating campaign materials that amplify the impact of our projects, whether through print, digital, or multimedia storytelling.
Cross-Team Collaboration:
• Work closely with the Projects, Partnerships, Editorial, and Marketing teams to ensure consistency and coherence in project communication.
• Support the Partnerships team by contributing to project-related fundraising materials, grant applications, and donor reports.
• Engage with external collaborators, researchers, and community members to ensure authenticity and inclusivity in project narratives.
Candidate Attributes:
• Strong research and storytelling skills, with a knack for translating complex ideas into compelling narratives.
• Experience in writing for impact-driven projects, non-profits, or organizations working at the intersection of sustainability, culture, and community development.
• Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading abilities, with attention to tone, accuracy, and clarity.
• Ability to adapt writing style for different audiences—ranging from formal reports to engaging website content.
• Comfortable working with data, reports, and research materials, ensuring content is well-informed and evidence-based.
• A collaborative mindset, able to work across teams and coordinate effectively with various stakeholders.
• Passionate about food systems, sustainability, and grassroots initiatives, with a deep interest in community-driven change.
• Proficiency in WordPress and SEO (preferred but not mandatory).
Growth Opportunities:
Joining The Locavore as a Projects Copywriter presents significant growth potential:
• Deeper involvement in project strategy: With demonstrated initiative and expertise, you may transition into a more strategic role within the Projects or Editorial teams.
• Leadership in storytelling and documentation: As The Locavore’s projects expand, you will have the opportunity to lead storytelling initiatives, ensuring that research, fieldwork, and grassroots efforts are well-documented and communicated effectively.
• Creative ownership over campaigns and materials: You may take on larger editorial projects, developing publications, reports, and educational materials that shape conversations around food sustainability.
