As our Community & Events Lead, you will take charge of building, growing, and engaging communities, expanding our network through strategic outreach, and planning & executing high-impact events—both online and offline. Your role will involve engaging experts, collaborators, institutions, chefs, restaurants, and individuals to expand The Locavore’s reach and impact.
This role is ideal for someone who is highly organized, deeply passionate about food, and thrives on connecting with people, curating experiences, and growing engaged communities.
Key Responsibilities:
Community Building & Engagement
• Develop and implement community engagement strategies, ensuring strong connections between The Locavore and its audience.
• Manage and grow WhatsApp groups and other digital platforms, fostering meaningful discussions around food, sustainability, and culture.
• Organize regional meet-ups and gatherings to create deeper relationships among community members.
• Build systems to track community engagement, ensuring long-term relationships with key community members.
• Identify and nurture community champions to help lead discussions, host events, and amplify The Locavore’s mission.
• Collect and analyze feedback from community members to improve engagement and enhance experiences.
Strategic Outreach & Partnerships
• Expand The Locavore’s network by identifying and reaching out to experts, chefs, institutions, restaurants, food historians, researchers, and organizations that align with our mission.
• Develop and manage relationships with educational institutions, creating opportunities for workshops, research collaborations, and knowledge exchange.
• Identify and initiate partnerships with restaurants, culinary schools, sustainability initiatives, and industry leaders to strengthen our impact.
• Work closely with the Editorial and Digital Media teams to integrate expert insights into our content and community engagement efforts.
• Represent The Locavore at food festivals, panel discussions, conferences, and industry events to expand our reach.
Event Strategy, Planning & Execution
• Develop a clear event strategy that aligns with The Locavore’s mission and engages different stakeholders.
• Plan and execute a variety of events, including workshops, panel discussions, culinary experiences, pop-ups, and food heritage walks.
• Coordinate with venues, vendors, sponsors, and collaborators to ensure seamless event execution.
• Collaborate with the Marketing & Digital Media teams to promote events effectively and drive attendance.
• Develop budgets and financial plans for events, ensuring cost-effective and impactful execution.
• Oversee event logistics, from scheduling and permits to post-event documentation and reporting.
Digital & Offline Community Coordination
• Ensure community-driven discussions across digital platforms are meaningful, well-facilitated, and moderated.
• Leverage email campaigns, newsletters, and digital forums to keep community members informed and engaged.
• Work with the Editorial team to highlight community voices through features, interviews, and digital storytelling.
• Utilize analytics and engagement metrics to measure the effectiveness of community and outreach efforts.
Cross-Team Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
• Work alongside the Marketing Lead and Digital Media Lead to ensure cohesive outreach and messaging.
• Partner with food producers, artisans, indigenous communities, cultural organizations, and academic institutions to expand The Locavore’s impact.
• Support The Locavore’s larger projects and campaigns by integrating outreach and community-building strategies where relevant.
• Act as a liaison between The Locavore and its broader network, ensuring clear communication and collaboration across different initiatives.

• Proactive and resourceful, able to initiate and drive new opportunities for community engagement.
• Confident in public speaking and moderating discussions, facilitating dynamic interactions at events and community spaces.
• Adaptable and quick-thinking, able to troubleshoot challenges in real-time.
• Team-oriented and collaborative, with the ability to work effectively across different departments.
