The #DoingGoodThroughFood Challenge
The #DoingGoodThroughFood Challenge was part of our larger Culinary Arts curation at the Serendipity Arts Festival 2023. Read more about it here.
Located in the Old GMC Complex, The Grove was an open space where visitors engaged in activities, workshops, and immersive installations centred around the theme ‘Play with Your Food’. Designed for collaborative participation, it allowed them time to think, co-create, and explore their relationship with food through joy and play.
At the centre of The Grove was #TheDoingGoodThroughFood Challenge—an interactive installation inviting people to contemplate their relationship with food. For instance, how many desi vegetables and fruits find their way onto your plate through the year? Does your plate discriminate? Do you know of any evocative food-related words in your mother tongue? How green is your garbage?
Through self-guided interactions spread across eight stations, the challenge allowed participants to engage independently. It was an exercise similar to a self-guided quiz where the goal is to debunk myths around food, stimulate meaningful conversations, and nudge participants to make positive changes in their food choices. For example, did you know that (as of 2024) a staggering 7,81,92,338 tonnes of food is wasted in Indian households each year, translating to roughly 55 kilograms per person?
With each topic, we shared practical solutions that individuals could proactively adopt in their daily lives. Additionally, a QR code offered them the chance to delve deeper into the subject through insightful articles and resources. At the end of the challenge, participants were encouraged to visit The Locavore Wall to make a personal pledge associated with their food choice
